Life Update!

I’ve been a busy busy bee!

Between classes, this Praxis program, and personal projects, I’ve been working almost non-stop! To be honest, I’m working a bit too much. I had a friend recently call me out on not taking enough breaks from work or spending enough time nurturing my relationships. I’ve never considered myself a “workaholic” before, but I guess it’s different when it’s work I enjoy.

💡 Friendly reminder to all of you: It’s okay to not be working 24/7! Take a break every once in a while and spend some time with your friends and family!

I’ll be continuing to work on prioritizing and time management over the next couple weeks as I’ll have more and more on my plate. I’m testing out using the pomodoro method. I’m working for chunks of time, even setting a timer, and then taking a break for a set amount of time. So far I’m working for around an hour and then taking a 15-30 minute break. It’s easy for me to get caught up in whatever I’m doing, whether it’s a work project or the new Pokémon game during my breaks (😅) so setting a timer has helped me. I’m starting to get a little sick of my alarm sound though! I’m also setting an end of the workday time for myself. I don’t have a set 9-5 schedule and I tend to be most productive in the evening, but I’m still forcing myself to set a time to wrap it up for the day so I can relax and spend time with whoever I’m with.

It’s easy to get caught up society’s definition of productivity, that you’re only productive if you check everything off your list and get as much done as possible. But that’s not productivity, that is closer to an obsession! I’m having to remind myself that prioritizing and managing my time is also productive.

A couple things that have helped during this busy time:

Planning and scheduling out my Instagram posts. Yes, I know, content batching is hard and not for everyone! But I’ve found it’s helped me so much. I no longer have to think about posting at the right time every day. All of that has already been done for a month in advance. (I have a blog post coming soon about content batching, so stay tuned if you don’t know what that is!)

Setting timers! As I mentioned, I’ve been setting timers for how long I have to work on something and also how long I have to take a break. This has been so helpful in keeping me focused on a task.

Having a great support group has helped a lot. 🥰 My friends and boyfriend have been very forgiving and understanding, but still willing to call me out on something! I am very grateful for my amazing friends and family.

Actually making a schedule and to-do list. Making a to-do list has been on my to-do list for a while now. 😅 But now that I’ve actually sat down and created one, I realized I should have done this a long time ago. I’ve been using notion and separating my tasks by project and status instead of by day. I also break down my tasks into small, bite-size pieces so I don’t miss anything and so I know exactly what to work on when I get started. Most of my projects take multiple days to finish, so I was finding it frustrating to schedule out tasks for the day and then not be able to check anything off my list at the end of the day. So this process has worked much better for me. But everyone has a different organizational preferences, so this type of schedule may or may not work for you. Would it be helpful if I wrote a blog post on different ways to organize your to-do list?

What’s next?

Stay tuned, because I’m working hard on my new course and it will be ready soon! This is one of my personal projects that is taking up all my time.
