Stuck in a Social Media Rut? Try These Creative Ideas When You Don't Know What to Post
Instagram can be challenging, even when you’re doing everything right. You’re posting every day, using hashtags, following the trends.
But eventually, you might run out of ideas of what to post!
That’s where I come in, I have compiled a list of easy post ideas for when you really can’t think of what to post!
An inspirational phrase
These are easy! You can start making a list today of inspirational phrases. Something like “dream big” or “don’t sweat the small stuff.” Things that people already know, but may need a reminder about.
An inspirational quote
I love quotes! Doesn’t everyone have a Pinterest board full of quotes that struck them? Just me? Okay, well you can start doing this today and before you know it, you have a whole board full of content ideas you can pull from!
A reminder
This is similar to an inspirational phrase, something that people already know, but may need a reminder about! This example is a little cheesy, but something I actually used! I talked about how you should stop and think about why you are smiling and be present in the moment.
A weekend rundown
These are fun, just drag and drop a few personal photos into the template and talk about your weekend while still looking cohesive and on-brand!
Refer to other content you’ve made
Do you have a blog, podcast, or youtube channel where you upload regular long-form content? Let the people know you have something new coming out! They won’t know if you don’t tell them!
Fun facts
I don’t see many people using this idea, but I love it. Post a couple of fun facts about yourself. Or two truths and a lie. People want to know more about you and this is an easy way to introduce yourself without repeating yourself over and over again.
Ask a question
Get the conversation flowing, ask a real question to your audience. Make it something you actually want to know! Their answers might give you ideas for new posts.
Ask about their day
Again, keep it simple and reusable! Just ask your audience how their day is going. Talk about what went right or wrong. Talk about mistakes you’ve learned from or exciting things you’ve got going on. Be authentic and personal.
Respond to a question
Is there something your audience asks you over and over again? Or have you hosted an Ask Me Anything recently? Post a question and answer your audience might be curious to know.
Talk about time passing
Every month, it’s a new month! Post about it! Talk about the goals you have for the month or what you accomplished in the last month. Talk about exciting events you have coming up in this month or new products you’re going to launch
A holiday, big or small
There are holidays just about every month! Bonus, if you look up a list on Google, there’s a lot of silly little holidays like “national hugging day” or “national ice cream day.”
A meme
Yeah, I know, they are cheesy and cringy, but they work! If you can’t think of anything else to post, this is a great option. People love the memes!
An puzzle or game
Give your audience something that stops their endless scroll and gives them a moment to linger! Make a little puzzle or game for them to play. Keep it easy, people don’t like to linger too long on social media, but have some fun with it!
An unpopular opinion
Post about something (slightly) controversial. Don’t just go with the flow! Write about something that not everyone agrees on. Then ask your audience’s opinion!
A definition
This one is super easy guys, just find a word that’s on brand and post the definition. Bonus points if you make up your own definition!
A sneak peek of something exciting
Do you have an event, course, new exciting blog post/podcast/youtube video coming out soon? Give them a little sneak peek! Build the hype!
Countdown to an event or launch
Again, build the hype! Get people excited about your new and exciting launch!
Host a giveaway
Give out a product or service for free, or even a $5 gift card you can send in the mail! This is a great way to get people excited about following you!
A review or testimonial
Post about your audience or customers or clients! Show new customers/clients that you have had great results.
Deconstruct something
Break it down for your audience with a clear and informative deconstruction! People love these, they are very trendy! Give it a try!
Host a mini challenge
Come up with something that your audience can do for 5 days in a row and then challenge them to follow through. Bonus points if you announce a giveaway for the challenge winner!
